How To Maintain My Mobility Scooter/Motorised Wheelchair

4 Tips to Maintain My PMA

  • Check for worn out wheels

Ensure the wheel is not worn out as it might be slippery

Ensure the tyre pressure is sufficient

Use solid tyres as they are maintenance-free and puncture proof

  • Check for any loose external parts

Look out for any loose bolts and nuts

  • Keep your PMA dry

Avoid riding your PMA in the rain due to lightning risk

Water might cause short circuits and corrosion to the device

  • Charge your battery after every use

PMAs are operated using battery power, hence charging to full after every use is required

Avoid overdraining the battery (below 30%) as you may get stuck outside and damage the battery

If the PMA battery life is reduced or the battery cannot hold a full charge, it may be time to replace the battery

Always look for authorised dealer(s) for repairs to ensure the usage of original approved parts

The lifespan of every mobility device can be maximised with good riding habits and yearly maintenance

From 1 February 2019, a new maximum device speed limit of 10km/h for motorised wheelchairs and mobility scooters for use on public paths has been implemented by LTA. This new law helps to protect pathway users, while ensuring that those with genuine mobility challenges can still have proper use of such devices. From Q1 2026, this speed limit is reduced to 6km/h. All AGIS Medical PMA devices are already compliant with this new speed limit as of 2025.

AGIS Medical Supplies follows LTA’s legislation closely, and AGIS Medical Supplies Pte Ltd’s wheelchairs and mobility scooters do comply with LTA’s guidelines.

Wheelchair or mobility scooters must not exceed 120cm in length and 70cm in width when boarding public transport. Wheelchairs or PMAs must not exceed a total laden weight of 300kg. From Q1 2026, the size and weight limits will become applicable to all PMA devices, regardless of where they are operated.

Please do note that the Personal Mobility Aid (PMA) are restricted from roads. Should one be found riding a Personal Mobility Aids (PMA) on the road, they will be liable to a fine of $2000, or a jail term of up to 3 months, or both.
